Celebrating 25 Years of Innovation: Silicon Labs Begins a New Chapter with a Fresh Brand
Silicon Labs is celebrating a huge milestone—our 25th anniversary since becoming a publicly traded company! To mark this special occasion, we are not just looking back at the incredible journey but also refreshing our brand to reflect our vision for the future.
A Legacy of Innovation
Silicon Labs started back in 1996 with a bold idea and a coin toss that set the stage for the future. One of our first big wins was the Direct Access Arrangement (DAA) in 1998, which revolutionized telephone line modems by replacing bulky components with a sleek silicon-based solution that quickly captured leading market share in the PC market, and many more breakthroughs followed. These innovations helped Silicon Labs grow rapidly, and in the year 2000, we went public on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol SLAB.
Fast forward 25 years to today, and Silicon Labs is a global leader in silicon, software, and solutions for the Internet of Things (IoT). We've been at the forefront of wireless connectivity standards like Bluetooth, Thread, Wi-Fi, Zigbee, and Z-Wave. Our work as one of the 5 founding members of the Thread and Matter standards, which are transforming interoperability in Smart Homes, shows just how influential we are in the IoT space.
New Vision Lays Out the Future for Silicon Labs
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of our Initial Public Offering (IPO) and better position ourselves to reflect a quarter-century of technological changes, we are updating how we portray ourselves to the market.
In the AI era, it's not just about connecting devices, but what they can do. Our new tagline, Connected Intelligence, reflects this. For years, we've heard about Smart Homes, Offices, Cities, and more. However, these aren't truly "smart"—they're just connected. Connectivity is essential, but only part of the puzzle. These devices need intelligence to reach their full potential, and Silicon Labs excels at providing that intelligence.
Silicon Labs offers products that integrate intelligence through compute, security, AI, and precision integration, along with high-performance connectivity via short and long-range wireless technology. This connected intelligence capability is central to the development of edge devices in the IoT, the fastest-growing segment in the electronics industry.
To bring Connected Intelligence to life, we embrace a new vision, to be The Undisputed Leader in Embedded Wireless. With a long history in RF, we have unmatched breadth, depth, and focus on the IoT. We create cutting-edge IoT solutions in the most highly-integrated SoCs, offer access to industry experts and simple development tools, and bring together the key IoT ecosystems and alliances to drive innovation. Silicon Labs dominates in the markets where we play and continues to grow into new markets needing high performance wireless systems.
Being the undisputed leader builds on our current status as The Leading Innovator in Low Power Wireless. Silicon Labs invests more revenue into R&D than any other low power wireless company, creating first-to-market technologies setting the industry's innovation agenda.
What do we do with this innovation? Silicon Labs connects devices to improve lives. We are committed to using technology for the betterment of humankind. By connecting devices from homes to factories to personal medical and beyond, we build a tomorrow where humans and connected devices can realize their full potential.
New Look Visualizes Who We Are
To go along with our new vision, Silicon Labs is rolling out a refreshed brand inspired by the Smith Chart. If you’re an RF engineer, you’re familiar with the Smith Chart as one of the first visualizations of RF spectrums and connectivity. Connectivity is in our DNA, and this change brings us closer to our roots.
The Smith Chart
The Smith Chart is known for its intricate and interconnected design, which perfectly symbolizes the complexity and elegance of wireless communication systems. Not only does the Smith Chart evoke the core of what Silicon Labs does, connecting devices, but it also shares visual elements with our logo, mainly its use of ovals. Taking that a step further, we can show how the Silicon Labs logo and the Smith chart can be combined to create a unique look that speaks to our core mission.
We are also looking back to the future with our refresh, and revitalizing our original red, white, and black color scheme to create bold, clean materials that draw the eye and make a statement. This nod to our roots is more than just a design choice; it's a celebration of our journey and the bold, pioneering spirit that has driven our success. The vibrant red symbolizes energy, passion, and a drive for innovation—qualities that have been at the heart of Silicon Labs since day one.
Here's to the Next 25 Years of Connected Intelligence
With 25 years of success behind us, Silicon Labs is ready for an exciting future. We're continuing to invest in research and development, driving advancements in wireless technology, and expanding our presence in key markets. Like Robert Metcalfe, best known for co-inventing Ethernet and formulating Metcalfe's law, we believe the value of a network grows substantially higher with each new connection. As we look to the future, Silicon Labs remains dedicated to creating a more connected world through secure, intelligent wireless solutions.
